Boston College Retires Matt Ryan's Jersey, Honoring Legendary NFL Career

Former Eagles Quarterback Returned to Alma Mater for Special Ceremony

30-0 Win Over UMass Marked Emotional Moment for Ryan

Former Boston College Eagles quarterback Matt Ryan had his jersey retired at halftime of the team's 30-0 victory over the UMass Minutemen on Saturday. The ceremony honored Ryan's exceptional college and professional football career, which spanned over two decades.

Ryan, who played for the Eagles from 2003 to 2006, led the team to an ACC Championship and a berth in the 2006 Orange Bowl. He finished his college career with 7,615 passing yards and 70 touchdowns, earning All-ACC honors and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Following his successful collegiate tenure, Ryan embarked on a 15-year NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons and the Indianapolis Colts. He was named the NFL MVP in 2016 and led the Falcons to Super Bowl LI, where they narrowly lost to the New England Patriots.

At the halftime ceremony, Ryan expressed his gratitude to Boston College for recognizing his achievements. "Coming back to The Heights and having my jersey retired is an incredible honor," Ryan said. "This school and this program mean so much to me, and I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to have played here and represent the Eagles."

The retirement of Ryan's jersey marks a historic moment for Boston College football. He joins an illustrious list of Eagles legends whose jerseys have been retired, including Doug Flutie, Andre Tippett, and Mark Herzlich.
