Zach Wilson Heads West, Jets Trade QB to Broncos

Former No. 2 Pick Departs New York

Quarterback Set to Join Denver

Almost three years after drafting Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets have officially traded the quarterback to the Denver Broncos. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets will receive a seventh-round pick in return.

Wilson's tenure in New York was marked by inconsistencies and injuries. The former No. 2 pick failed to live up to expectations and struggled to establish himself as a franchise quarterback. With the Jets drafting Ohio State's C.J. Stroud with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Wilson's future in New York became uncertain.

The Denver Broncos, who have been searching for a long-term solution at quarterback since Peyton Manning retired in 2016, see potential in Wilson. While Wilson has yet to prove himself as a starting-caliber quarterback, the Broncos believe they can develop him into a franchise cornerstone. However, it is expected that the Broncos will decline Wilson's fifth-year option of $22.4 million in 2025.

The trade marks a significant shift in the Jets' quarterback situation. With Stroud now under center, the Jets hope to have found their franchise quarterback of the future. Meanwhile, the Broncos will look to Wilson to lead their offense and provide stability at the most important position on the field.
