Damar Hamlin On Tua Tagovailoa I Was Just Trying To Make A Routine Tackle

NFL's Damar Hamlin on Tua Tagovailoa: I was just trying to make a routine tackle

Bills safety provides perspective on controversial Dolphins QB hit

Hamlin: 'It was a freak accident'

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has spoken out about the controversial hit on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, saying he was simply trying to make a routine tackle.

Hamlin's comments come after Tagovailoa was stretchered off the field and taken to a local hospital following a hit by Bengals linebacker Josh Tupou in the first quarter of their game on Thursday night.

The hit, which occurred just four days after Tagovailoa was allowed to return to a game against the Bills despite appearing to suffer a concussion, has raised questions about the NFL's concussion protocol.

Hamlin said he understands why people are upset about the hit, but he insists that he was not trying to hurt Tagovailoa.

"I was just trying to make a routine tackle," Hamlin said. "It was a freak accident."

Hamlin said he has spoken to Tagovailoa since the hit and that the Dolphins quarterback is doing well.

"He's a tough guy," Hamlin said. "He's going to be back on the field soon."

The NFL is currently investigating the hit on Tagovailoa. The league has said that it will take all necessary steps to ensure that players are protected from head injuries.
